Disability Services 

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, many classes could move to an online format at any time. The barriers that exist at the intersection of a student's disability and course design may be different from the original course format. Some accommodations students used before may no longer apply to online formats for example (Peer Notetaking, Priority Seating), and some accommodations not considered prviously may need to be considered now. Each student situation is unique, and we are here to help and can look at your situations to come up with an individualized plan.

For online classes, examples of accommodations that could be provided would be extended time for exams (and quizzes), if exams (and quizzes) are timed, or on course assignments that are timed, course notes in Blackboard ability to record lecture using your own recording device and E-books sent via email if you quality.

ReadSpeaker is available in Blackboard to read the content and exams that will be on Blackboard. Instructions on how to use ReadSpeaker can be found here.

  • If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19, please follow the College's guidelines for self-quarantine. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms that are significantly impacting your coursework, or if you have a CDC-identified higher risk medical conitions that impacts your coursework, please contact SDS. We would like to discuss these impacts with you and how you may be eligible for temprary accommodations.

Students with disabilities attending South Plains College will find many programs and services designed to provide access to all aspects of college life. South Plains College students with disabilities are granted special accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Any student who anticipates a need for accommodations due to a disability should contact the Disability Services Office on either the Levelland campus or the SPC Reese Center at the time the decision is made to attend SPC.

Adequate notice to prepare for and provide special accommodations and services is required.

Student anticipating the need for electronic textbooks will need to start the ordering process a minimum of 4 weeks before the beginning of the semester.  The Disability Office cannot guarantee that electronic textbooks are available for every course taught at South Plains College.

In accordance with federal law, a student requesting special accommodations must provide adequate and acceptable documentation of his/her disability. In order to help students meet this responsibility, South Plains College has established guidelines regarding the essential elements of satisfactory documentation.

AIM Instructions for Students New to Student Disability Services wanting to apply for classroom accommodations

                           Must be accepted into SPC and have been issued a Student ID#
                                          along with SPC USername and Password


Students new to Disability Services (all campuses) will use their SPC Student Login (Username and Password) to begin their Student Application for services. Guidelines for submitting proper Documentation of your Disability are provided here.

AIM Instructions for SPC Student's already registered with the Student Disability Services Office

SPC Students currently registered and approved with the Student Disability Services Office as of 8/03/2020 will use AIM to generate their Faculty Notification Letters formally known as Letters of Accommodation and make accommodation request each semester they are enrolled at SPC. AIM will directly email instructors a copy of Faculty Notification Letters after requests for each course has been submitted. Student will receive a copy via email as well. If you believe that an action or decision made by the Disability Services Office violates your rights, 
you may initiate a grievance procedure.
Your first step should be to address the problem with the Coordinator of Disability Services.  If you are still not satisfied,you should contact the Director of Health & Wellness. 

If your concerns are not resolved at this level, the Vice President of Student Affairs can provide direction on further appeals procedures.Information on student appeals and the academic appeals procedures are published in the General Catalog. Specific procedures, including ADA/504 complaints, are outlined in the Student Guide.
