LEGAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM Offered at the Reese Center campus. The South Plains College Reese Center Campus offers an excellent two-year program designed to provide you the classroom and hands-on experience needed to pursue a career as a legal assistant. The program's goal is to train you to think critically and to write clearly, in addition to learning the language of the law. You will become familiar with fundamental area of law and legal research while Because the program's emphasis is on hands-on experience, local attorneys and certified legal assistants teach a number of the classes and bring practical applications to the classroom. As a student, you participate in class discussions and hear special presentations by professionals in the field. You also visit law libraries and work as an intern in legal offices to experience actual job situations. Graduates are awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the Certified Legal Assistant Examination (CLA) that is administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). The legal assistant program consists of 70 semester hours of selected college-level course work. Students enrolled in the program must satisfactorily complete 22 semester hours of general education courses and 48 semester hours of legal assistant courses. |
